01Lipari town
Marina Corta, the Castle, the main street and evening life

The island to experience
Seaside towns, rural hamlets, volcanic rock and stories spanning thousands of years.
One island, five main faces
The island revolves around Lipari, Canneto, Acquacalda, Pianoconte and Quattropani. Around them are Porticello, Lami, Pirrera, Pianogreca, San Salvatore, Monte Gallina and Annunziata: hamlets with their own landscapes and rhythms.
From the white stone of the quarries to sanctuaries facing the sunset: places to enjoy between days by the sea, at the island’s own pace.
Not to miss
In Porticello, white cliffs and the remains of the former quarry works form one of the island’s most recognisable landscapes.

History and culture
The Luigi Bernabò Brea Regional Archaeological Museum occupies the Castle complex and tells the archipelago’s story from prehistory to modern times, with archaeological, volcanological and smaller-island sections.
Faith, history and sea
The Cathedral and the feast on 24 August tell of the island’s deep bond with its patron saint. Open the chapters to discover the church, procession and night of fireworks.
Built by Benedictine monks in the eleventh century on the Castle hill, the Cathedral was destroyed and rebuilt several times. Part of its remarkable Norman cloister survives beside the church.
The climax is 24 August: the silver statue passes through Lipari’s streets with the confraternities and the Vascelluzzo, a reliquary recalling the seventeenth-century famine.
In the evening, after the procession and events at Marina Corta, boats gather below the Cathedral. The blessing at sea comes before the great fireworks display, traditionally awaited around midnight.

Volcanic sea
The best beach depends on the wind: ask us each morning where to go.
For somewhere truly hidden, choose Praia di Vinci: accessible by sea, it retains the wildest character of the south coast.
