Milazzo is the main gateway to Lipari, but you can also depart from Messina or Reggio Calabria. Here is every step, with links to official timetables.
Choose your departure point
Plane, bus, hydrofoil or ferry: plan your journey with confidence.
Boat and bus schedules change with the season. Always check the actual date on the operators’ websites before booking flights or connections.

Giuntabus runs a seasonal direct service from Catania Airport to Milazzo port. Departures vary throughout the year: select your dates on the official website and allow extra time before boarding.
From Messina, Giuntabus takes you directly to Milazzo’s hydrofoil terminal. Weekday and holiday schedules differ: check the timetable for your travel date.
Liberty Lines publishes fast connections from Reggio Calabria to Messina and the Aeolian Islands. Direct trips to Lipari are seasonal; if none run on your date, cross the Strait to Messina and continue to Milazzo.
On arriving at Sottomonastero, Via Maddalena 90 is a short distance from the port. Write to us before departure: we will give you precise directions based on your arrival time and luggage, or check whether a transfer is available.
Lipari town is easy to explore on foot, but a vehicle helps you reach Quattropani, Acquacalda, the quarries and the viewpoints. A scooter is handy on narrow roads and for parking; a small car is more comfortable with children, luggage or on windy days.
Book ahead in July and August. Always confirm the required licence, insurance cover, deposit, helmets and return conditions directly with the rental company.
